The 20th century has been a time of great change. No doubt one of the most signifigant changes has been in the role of women, and by extention, the change in our very perceptions of gender. These changes have infiltrated every part of our society, from the entrance of women to the paid workforce, to their growing participation in our political system through campaigns for women's rights legislation and women's suffrage, to their participation in the cultural and sexual revolution of the 1960's and 70's, and finally, to their embracing of conservativism in the 1980's and 90's. Each of these examples affected not only women, but our entire culture. The story of women's issues, as shown on these pages, is not just the story of 51% of this countries population. It is the story of changes that revolutionized the way all 100% of Americans live out their lives.
